EMERGENCY
MANAGEMENT AND PREPAREDNESS TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES
DEM is the County's
coordinator for emergency training. DEM coordinates with
local, state and federal agencies that sponsor a wide range of individual
and group training courses. These courses come in a variety
of formats including self study and traditional classroom instruction.
Most courses are offered free of charge to qualified students.
Some courses are eligible for college credit.
Other sources of
training are the Washington State Emergency Management Division
(EMD) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
The Islands Chapter of the American Red Cross also offers
a series of emergency and disaster preparedness and response classes.
Other groups include Snohomish Health District and Western
Washington Interagency Training Zone.

Nurses
on the Front Line: Preparing for and Responding to Emergencies
and Disasters
This learning tool
may also provide some insight for professions other than nursing,
as well. Medical Reserve Corps unit leaders and volunteers are
encouraged to take advantage of this course and all the resources
available on the site.
Electronic
Core Disaster Life SupportT (eCDLST) Course.
The AMA Center for
Public Health Preparedness and Disaster Response (CPHPDR) invites
all members of the Medical Reserve Corps to take the newly
released electronic Core Disaster Life SupportT (eCDLST) course.
The 4-hour course was developed with funding from the Department
of Homeland Security and is offered at no charge. The course
comprises nine modules, a pre-test, and a post-test.
