ISLAND COUNTY COMMISSIONERS – MINUTES OF MEETING

SPECIAL SESSION - MARCH 28, 2001

The Board met in Special Session on March 28, 2001, for a no-host luncheon from Noon to 1:30 p.m., in the Island County Courthouse Annex Hearing Room, Coupeville, Wa., with William F. Thorn, Chairman, Mike Shelton, Member, and Wm. L. McDowell, Member, present. The Special Session was called to allow Board members to participate in a joint meeting with Elected Officials from Island County, City of Oak Harbor, City of Langley, Town of Coupeville, and Port Districts, to discuss issues of mutual concern.

Legislative Update. Discussed active legislation, particularly budget, rural county designation and shoreline management mandate.

Status of Harbor Airlines. Shared information heard about operation of airlines and change in landing from Sea-Tac to Boeing Field.

Skagit PUD Interest in Small Water Systems. Commissioner Thorn shared information he knew about Skagit PUD possible interest in managing small water systems in Island County.

County Parks Board. Commissioner Thorn shared information about a joint meeting to be held with Whatcom Parks Foundation, and potential for developing a resource for park improvements.

Oak Harbor Update. Mayor Cohen provided an update on staffing and reorganization in the City of Oak Harbor. Also some discussion on the effect of NAS Whidbey recreation programs on business in Oak Harbor.
