ISLAND COUNTY COMMISSIONERS - MINUTES OF MEETING

SPECIAL SESSION – JANUARY 23, 2002

The Board of Island County Commissioners met in Special Session, Wednesday, January 23, 2002, for a no-host luncheon beginning at Noon, at the Island County Courthouse Annex Hearing Room, Coupeville, Wa. The session was called for the purpose of allowing the Commissioners’ participation in a joint meeting with Elected Officials from Island County, City of Oak Harbor, City of Langley, Town of Coupeville, and Port Districts to discuss mutual issues and concerns.

County Commissioners attending were: Mike Shelton, Chairman; and William F. Thorn, Member. Others attending included: Mayor Nancy Conard, Town of Coupeville; Mayor Patricia Cohen, City of Oak Harbor; Ed Van Patten, Coupeville Port District; David L. Jamieson, Jr., Chief Civil Deputy Prosecuting Attorney; Arne Denny, Deputy Prosecuting Attorney; and Rick Levine, Whidbey News Times. Guests included Kelley Moldstad, Director, Skagit Council of Governments; and Eron Berg, Mayor of LaConner and the Chairman of the Skagit Council of Governments.

Mayor Berg and Mr. Moldstad shared information about their organizations and explained how the Skagit Council of Governments works. There was interaction in terms of questions and answers regarding formation of the council and the initializing paperwork.

Meeting adjourned at 1:15 p.m. The next meeting is scheduled for February 27, 2002, at Noon.
