Board of Health Liaison Work Plan, 2005-2010

Purpose

Establish and maintain routine two-way communication between the CHAB and the Island County Board of Health

Process

Attend all meetings of the BoH. Submit a written report of each meeting to the next regularly scheduled meeting of the CHAB. This report will identify all items dealt with by the BoH that may be of interest to the CHAB membership, providing detail necessary to inform the CHAB and permit follow-up as desired. The report should be submitted sufficiently in advance that it can be included in the monthly CHAB Consent Calendar.

Each quarter, submit to the BoH a written report on the activities of the CHAB. The report will be presented verbally at the BoH meetings in February, May, August and November. The verbal presentation can be condensed to address only the highlights. A copy of the report will be attached to the report submitted to the CHAB on the BoH meeting.

Reports are the responsibility of the Liaison, but assistance can and should be obtained from the BoH Executive Secretary and from the IC Health Department staff Assistant for CHAB.

Membership

David A. Macys through 2007. Catherine Howard-Clark beginning 2008

Projects

Develop standard templates for reports to BoH and to CHAB to insure communication is comprehensive. Sections can be added or left out as necessary, but the templates will serve as a reminder or checklist for the various issues of interest to all parties.

Status: Ongoing effort. Determine modifications necessary as a result of functions review, below.

Review functions of position with CHAB membership and validate or revise as necessary, including products and results desired.

Status: To continue with quarterly reports to the Board of Health, and to attend each BoH meeting in order to provide BoH input at each monthly CHAB meeting.

Coordinate with the Communications Committee, and with the Community Liaison Task Force, to determine how to contribute information from the BoH to their efforts, and to incorporate their accomplishments into the reports to the BoH.

Status: Incorporate into functions review, above; if retained as a function of the position, initiate discussions to devise most appropriate mechanism(s).

Meet with BoH to solicit input on function of liaison position and products desired – what are their needs and is this position meeting them?

Status: Should be at least partly scripted, and requires advance planning with consultation within CHAB. Schedule only after completion of functions review above.
