Island County: Who Are We?

Have you heard that Island County is a retirement community?

Recent population figures clearly demonstrate that Island County is a typical "baby boom" community. This population pyramid shows a bulge of population between 30–50 years of age (baby boomers) and 0–14 years (children of the baby boomers). It also shows a population bulge in the 18–30 male age group reflecting the population of the Naval Air Station.

We are growing — fast!

46% of the people who lived here in 1990 did not live here in 1985. This makes Island County one of the fastest growing counties in Washington. Where are all the people coming from? This chart indicates that 13% are newcomers from Washington State, 29% from other states, and 4% from outside the U.S.
