Welcome to the Drinking Water Program in Island County.
The Drinking Water Program reviews and coordinates approval of all new Group B water systems. In addition, we issue the Water Availability Verification (WAV) for all Individual, Group B and Group A Water Systems for building permits.
For Group B water systems our review includes well site approval, informational materials for operation and maintenance, and water conservation methods. For Group B systems, with 3 - 14 connections, the Drinking Water Program reviews system design packets.
After systems are established, the drinking water program administers and enforces drinking water quality standards for Group B water systems with 3-14 connections. This is accomplished through water quality monitoring and system operation. The program focuses resources on the areas of highest public health benefit by investigating and recommending corrective action for drinking water contamination and complaints. It emphasizes prevention of contamination through source protection and technical assistance to water systems in all aspects of drinking water quality.
