Water Resources Advisory Committee - About Us
The Water Resources Advisory Committee was formed by the Board of Island County Commissioners in 1999 to address water resource planning and management. The WRAC was created by sun setting three previous citizen advisory committees: The Groundwater Advisory Committee, the Stormwater Advisory Committee, and the North Whidbey Watershed Management Advisory Committee. As many of the committees issues overlapped, Island County and Department of Ecology recognized the need to approach water resource protection on a comprehensive basis.
The WRAC is the planning unit that facilitates consensus decision making representing a broad spectrum of interests and geographic area. The twelve WRAC Members are appointed by the Board of Island County Commissioners for a four year term.
Additional citizen and agency advisors provide technical and community expertise. Members influence policy related to Groundwater, Stormwater, Watershed Management, and Salmon Recovery.
This organization encourages public awareness and involvement in water issues.
See the WRAC Charter for additional information.
