1. Mental Health residential beds, services and continuum of care.
Work on support for the Mental Health Tax Initiative recently passed into
law for Island County.
2. Obtained a State incentive Grant through the Division of Substance Abuse for
$158,340 to implement a student assistance program in the two Oak Harbor Middle Schools.
3. Expanded substance abuse treatment for youth, and expansion of treatment
services on S. Whidbey and Camano
4. Preservation of the Youth Crisis Respite House
5. Addition of Tobacco Prevention and Cessation programs to general
substance abuse prevention.
6. Cookie Creations and Alchemy Upholstery, consumer owned businesses in
Island County were awarded $51,295 in response to an RFP from the North Sound Regional
Support Network. The funding was used for vans, computers and training to enhance and
expand their businesses.
7. A community Development Block Grant application was submitted by
Community Mental Health and Island County for $750,000 to build a new mental health center
in Coupeville.
8. "Think It Over", the stop smoking video featuring the Langley
Middle School and community members, was the Vision Awards NATIONAL WINNER competing
against 30,000 other applicants!
9. Island County received $15,436 to help fund 13 prevention and training
projects, many in the community and schools. Funding was received from the Community
Prevention Training System grants available through DASA. Many of these projects had no
other source of funding and would not have held without this funding.
10. Community Mental Health received $175,000 from the Housing Trust Fund to
purchase and remodel the O'Leary House in Oak Harbor, the site of the Adult Crisis Respite
House, plus long term residential support.
11. Provide parenting classes in the Island County
jail
12. Developing procedures to implement I-901 (Second
Hand Smoke Legislation) locally
13. Partnership with Whidbey General hospital to
provide:
– smoking cessation classes for Island County
residents
– smoking cessation classes for pregnant women and
information of the
dangers of second hand smoke
14. Partnership with other counties in Region 3 to
support the UNTOLD (The Truth About Tobacco and the Media) conference in
March of each year. In 2006 the collaboration supported 20 youth from Island
County to attend.
15. Continue to support alcohol and other drug
prevention programs through contracts with:
– Coupeville School District
– South Whidbey School District
– Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Island County
– Island County Readiness to Learn
16. Provide funding for Mental Health professionals in
each of the 4 school districts.
17. Partnered with local school districts to provide
person-centered planning for students with disabilities transitioning out of
high school
18. Supported Parent/Educator partnerships in 2 school
districts
19. Continue to provide financial support for agencies
providing employment support for individuals with disabilities.
20. Continue to provide financial support for early
intervention services for infants and toddlers with disabilities.
21. Provide financial support for individuals, family
members, and professionals in the areas of developmental disabilities,
mental health and substance abuse prevention and treatment to attend
workshops, trainings, etc. around the state.

workshops and trainings in our own area
