These are some ideas about what you can do right now to be a part of creating a healthy future in Island County:

Injury Prevention

Know how, where, and when to use safety restraints in and around the home Invite a luncheon speaker to address  workplace safety Drive at or under the speed limit

Stop at all stop signs

Be a courteous driver at all times

This Island County Health Dept program was discontinued for lack of funding

Tobacco use prevention Don't expose others, especially children, to tobacco smoke Promote a tobacco-free workplace As of 8 Dec 2005
all public spaces in Washington State are smoke-free.

Alcohol abuse Talk with your kids about alcohol and other drugs

Be a positive role model

Encourage your work-place to have an employee assistance program where employees can get help with alcohol problems Don't drink and drive

Drinking Water Conservation

Turn off the water when brushing your teeth

Pump your septic tank regularly

Dispose of hazardous wastes at approved sites

Install low flow fixtures

Invite a speaker to your workplace to talk about our water supply

Talk to your family
& friends about conservation and ground water protection

Take a parenting class

Learn to recognize signs of abuse
