"The mission of the Island County Community Health Advisory Board (CHAB) is to assist the Board of Health to improve and maintain the physical, mental, and social well-being of Island County residents."
   April 1992

The Advisory Board is to promote public participation in and identification of public health needs, to develop public health policies and procedures by which Island County can address those needs, and to assist in assuring that health needs are met for citizens of Island County. The Advisory Board is appointed by and reports directly to the Island County Board of Health.

TASKS

"The Advisory Board's basic tasks will be to

  • Provide for communication between Island County Board of Health and the community at large

  • Identify and inform the community regarding health care needs based on current data, testimony, and public input

  • Set priorities based on these factors to assure present and future health of the county's population

  • Formulate recommendations, action plans, and policy to the Board of Health for implementation

  • Evaluate the impact of enacted policies and programs on our communities"

"The Advisory Board recognizes that Island County's unique population base requires carefully crafted, localized approaches to health care problems. There will be no easy solutions, so we must work in an atmosphere that fosters teamwork and mutual respect."

"In this spirit, we shall strive to establish a partnership among all elements of the community without discrimination. We shall adopt an advocacy role based on a consensus of the Board's members."
