Partners
in Action
In
the last several years, efforts of the Island County Community
Health Advisory Board (CHAB),
the Island County Environmental Health Assessment Team (EHAT),
and Whidbey in Motion (WHIM),
and development of the Island
County Plan for Healthy Living have paved the way for
making policy changes within Island County. With support
from Island County Public Health, CHAB and EHAT serve in public
health policy advisory roles to the local Board of Health, facilitate
new partnerships and interact with numerous community groups,
public and private agencies, service providers, and the public
to review assessment information and set priorities for action.
The community health assessments and priority-setting processes
used by EHAT and CHAB identified chronic disease and physical
activity as priority issues for the community. Additionally,
public input on the Plan for Healthy Living illustrates the community’s
desire for increased physical activity and healthy eating opportunities.
Island
County Public Health and their community partners are actively
involved in addressing obesity and chronic disease in Island County.
From Clinton to Camano, government officials, public health
professionals, and community members are working to make changes
that support active living and healthy eating.
