  •   “Non-point pollution”.  Read all about it, then pick out a few habits you’d like to work on changing, to help keep your drinking and surface water safe.
  •   Is your home served by a septic system?  This guide has info about new statewide rules now in affect for homes and businesses with septics.  Learn what you can do to keep your system working properly, and save money, besides!

  •   Low Impact Development , called L-I-D, for short  -- It’s not a fad; rather, it’s a new, common sense approach for homes or businesses, whether they’re already built, or just getting started.  How-tos and more about reducing impervious surfaces, so rainwater can soak into your soil, instead of running off your land. We are sorry to note that an important acknowledgement was left off the illustrations on the LID section on page 12 of the Guide.  Special thanks are due to Puget Sound Partnership for allowing us the use of the images by AHBL.

  •   Pet and Livestock Waste – What to do with it, and why -- whether in the barnyard, or when you’re out walking Spot, or home emptying the kitty litter box.
  •    What do you think? Please take a moment to help us improve our service by completing this questionnaire and return it to us by October 15, 2007. To complete this questionnaire on line, follow the above link to a WORD template, fill it out and save as a Word document, then send as an attachment via email to: NEIGHBORHOODS@co.island.wa.us
