the draft wetland regulations. Your active participation
and ideas are needed! Below is a schedule of opportunities:
You're
always welcome to meet individually with County planning
staff during business hours at our Camano or
Coupeville offices, to discuss the proposed regulations
and how they may impact your property.

Commission Public Hearings - Planning
Commissioners voluntarily serve as your citizen
representatives on land use issues. They
will formally review the proposed wetland regulations
at Public Hearings in November.
There will be informative presentations by County
planners and specialists, and questions and concerns
will be addressed. You and your neighbors
can again publicly comment about the updated wetlands
plan. Your opinions will help your Planning
Commissioners in their subsequent Deliberations.

Trades Workshops - Free 2-hour
training, you'll visit nearby sites,
learn to identify and locate critical areas, then
go inside for coffee, rolls and Q&A with planning,
building and health department staff. Take-homes
include Wetland ID Guide for use in Island County,
critical area maps, phone numbers of who to call
for help, etc. Participants may add their
name to a public list of skilled trades tha thave
completed a Critical Areas Workshop. Septic
Installers: this training can be applied
to the Health Departments licensing requirement
for your annual C.E.U. (continuing education credits). Reservations are required for
these workshops (see information below).

Fine-Tuning - Over the summer months, the proposed wetland
regulations were refined, before your County Planning
Commissioners begin formal Public Hearings in
the fall. Revisions to the proposed rules
were based upon comments received from citizens,
as well as scientific Peer Reviews, and reviews
by State regulatory and environmental agencies,
in accordance with the State Environmental Policy
Act (SEPA) and the GMA.

owners and interested persons were encouraged
to attend. Workshops are an opportunity
to learn about the proposed rules. Formal
public hearings will be held in the fall.
