EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AND PREPAREDNESS TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES

DEM is the County's coordinator for emergency training.  While DEM itself has a limited capability to provide training, it coordinates with state and federal agencies that sponsor a wide range of individual and group training courses.  These courses come in a variety of formats including self study and traditional classroom instruction.  Most courses are offered free of charge to qualified students.  Some courses are eligible for college credit.

The main sources of training are the Washington State Emergency Management Division (EMD), FEMA, and the Office for Domestic Preparedness (ODP).  The Island County Chapter of the American Red Cross also offers a series of emergency and disaster preparedness and response classes.  Other groups including the Snohomish Health Region and he Western Washington Interagency Training Zone, Fire Training.
